Fabrar-Liberia to Buy 40,000 Bags of Paddy Rice from Local Farmers Annually

first_imgLiberia’s agriculture sector is faced with numerous challenges, keeping the production of local commodities on a low scale. One of the constraints in the sector is the issue of marketing opportunities for many subsistence farmers across the country. For example, most rice farmers have continued to complain of the lack of markets for their produce. The farmers produce, but there are no buyers. Many thanks, however, to the initiative of Fabrar-Liberia, a local rice processing company, which has begun buying paddy rice from farmers. The rice they buy are to be processed for the Liberian market.Fabrar-Liberia aims to buy 40,000 bags of seed rice annually from local farmers across the country.Recently, this local rice processing company procured about 1,200 bags from over 100 farmers producing rice in Lofa County. For many farmers in the country, rice is mainly produced and consumed at the household level and the surplus sold at the market. That is exactly the case with farmers in Lofa, who believed that the local market was as far as their rice would go. For others, their rice may go the extra mile and make it across the border into Guinea.A lead farmer of the Bagagizia Farmers Association in Voinjama, James Dorbor, said Liberian farmers could produce enough rice to supply the local market. Bagagizia is one of several rice farming cooperatives benefiting from the USAID Food and Enterprise Development (FED) Program. These farmers have been supported in lowland rice cultivation through the provision of modern equipment, irrigation structures and improved seed to increase rice production in Liberia.“Lack of buyers of the rice [that] farmers in Lofa County produce is a major challenge for many farmers in our county. If only we can get buyers, we will continue to make farms every year,” Dorbor said.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Two bizarre Highway Two incidents

first_imgThe most serious injury appeared to be to the female driver of the first of the two SUV’S involved in the crash, who required fire department assistance after being trapped in her vehicle.Police say there were also three child passengers in that vehicle, but it’s believed that all those involved in the crash, requiring hospital care, were treated and released. The investigation into the cause of the crash involves both the Dawson Creek RCMP and Provincial Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement inspectors.Meantime, both are also involved in the investigation into another bizarre Highway Two incident, several hours later.Advertisement The Dawson Creek Mounties report this one occurred just before five o’clock, near the 203 Road, and involved an east bound five tonne truck and a westbound pickup. The big truck lost its driver’s side wheel assembly, when it went over a bridge…and that assembly then slammed into the pickup, which suffered “major frontal driver’s side damage”.The only one reportedly hurt was the 19 year old driver of the pick-up, but his neck and chest injuries are not believed to have been life threatening.Police have already cited mechanical failure as the reason for the wheel assembly separation. The Dawson Creek RCMP says everyone involved managed to escape serious injury, following a four vehicle chain reaction crash yesterday on Highway Two, between the EnCana Events Centre and the Dawson Creek Airport. It occurred shortly before noon, and involved a west bound gravel truck towing a pup trailer. It collided with an east bound Alaska registered van that was also pulling a trailer, which had the axles torn from its undercarriage.- Advertisement -The gravel truck subsequently collided with two east bound SUV’S…with one losing its front driver’s side wheel assembly…and the other ending up in the ditch of the east bound lanes after being side-swiped on the driver’s side. The gravel truck then narrowly missed a hydro pole, and rolled onto its side into the ditch with its fuel tanks ripped open and on fire. However the 61 year old driver, described by police as a local area resident, walked away from the wreckage.Advertisementlast_img read more

Pochettino slams ‘disrespectful’ Guardiola over Kane jibe

first_imgThe 24-year-old also scored England’s winning goals in their recent World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania.Speaking during the international break, City boss Guardiola said: “We saw again the Harry Kane team scores every day two or three goals”.Pochettino didn’t take kindly to Guardiola’s taunt and the Tottenham manager hit back by pointing out that goals from Lionel Messi were the driving force behind the Spaniard’s trophy-laden spell at Barcelona.“That didn’t affect me but the reality is it was very disrespectful for many people,” Pochettino said on Friday.“It’s difficult to understand because he was part of the big success at Barcelona with Messi at his best, and I never said it was ‘the Messi team’. I always said it was Barcelona or Pep Guardiola.“I think everyone deserves to be recognised as part of the success of the team. But I think many people took those words as very disrespectful for the club, and for many players that are here I think it’s a strange situation.”Tottenham, who host Bournemouth on Saturday, trail City by five points in the Premier League.City consolidated pole position with an impressive win at champions Chelsea before the international period and Pochettino suggested that result might have sparked Guardiola’s Kane comment.“When it’s exciting after an amazing victory against Chelsea, sometimes he can struggle to keep his position and be a gentleman,” Pochettino said.“I think it’s a sad comment because the players laugh about that. If you’re a manager you must show more, no? To be above this type of comment.“That is my opinion, like I respect his opinion but I think the players, more motivated or less motivated? I think it’s the same.“It’s sad and it’s not right in football. Today we want to show respect, fair play and everything.”Asked if he had spoken to Guardiola personally, Pochettino added: “No, of course not. He hasn’t called me yet.“Maybe after the press conference he calls me. I’m sure I will reply.”0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino (L) congratulates his striker Harry Kane for his hat-trick as he is substituted during the UEFA Champions League match against Apoel FC at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia on September 26, 2017 © AFP/File / JACK GUEZLONDON, United Kingdom, Oct 13 – Mauricio Pochettino accused Pep Guardiola of being disrespectful after the Manchester City manager claimed Harry Kane’s prolific form is the only reason for Tottenham Hotspur’s success.Kane has scored 11 goals in his last six appearances for Spurs to keep Pochettino’s side in touch with Premier League leaders City.last_img read more
