Men’s Basketball To Open Gulf Coast Showcase Against WKU

first_imgESTERO, Fla. — The Drake University men’s basketball team continues its rigorous stretch of five games in eight days with the first of three games at the Gulf Coast Challenge in Estero, Fla. The Bulldogs open up play in the three-day tournament Monday against Western Kentucky at 5 p.m. CST. Drake will then face either Central Michigan or Weber State on Tuesday in the second game. The third game will feature of the other four teams in the field, Duquesne, Murray State, Milwaukee or Pepperdine. All three games will be available to view via the BD Global Sports YouTube channel.The Bulldogs travel to Southwestern Florida with a 1-2 record after falling at home to UMKC Saturday evening, 79-73. Last season, the Bulldogs scored 70 or more points just eight times all season. This season they have hit that mark in all three games to date.Sophomore guard Reed Timmer has led the Bulldogs to date with a pair of 19-point games followed by 23 points on Saturday. That performance was just two points shy of a career high. True freshman Dominik Olejniczak has led the rebounding efforts with an average of eight boards per outing off the bench.Monday’s opponent, WKU, is coming off a 67-66 win over Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon.
