first_imgKlopp tells Liverpool fans to forget world-record purchasesby Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveJurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will not be able to compete “constantly” in the transfer market. The Reds spent over £200m in 2018 to bring in Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri. Both van Dijk and Alisson were bought with world-record fees for their respective positions.According to Klopp, those purchases were only made possible by equally big sales, such as Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. And the German has urged fans not accept as them future norm.”We cannot do that constantly [spending big on players] and we will not do that constantly,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “The good thing was that, like most things in life, the timing was important. We had the money and the players were on the market. We didn’t know exactly when Alisson was on the market and when it was clear that he was, we had to, even if we had to collect money somewhere.”With the Neymar transfer, the whole world changed. Could I have expected someone would have made the move from Barcelona to PSG for that money? No. But then, we had a bit of that money because of Phil [Coutinho] so what do we do? We don’t build houses, we invest in this club and invest in players. The money was there so let’s use it in the smartest way and that’s what we did.”Since I’ve been here, we’ve always sold players and bought players because that’s how it is. I don’t know what our net spend is at the end, but we bought fantastic players in. Like Gini Wijnaldum, what a player he is. We bought him from Newcastle, playing left-wing or whatever so that’s really nice. So really good signings and two for really big money.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgLiverpool’s Robertson says Fabinho ‘different class’ at centre-backby Freddie Taylor9 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveAndy Robertson has admitted his admiration for his teammate Fabinho. The Brazilian was drafted in for centre-back duty given the injury crisis the Reds are experiencing in that position. He turned in a top display alongside Virgil Van Dijk, helping his side to a 1-0 win away to Brighton. And Robertson was very impressed with what he saw.”For somebody playing out of position, he covered so well, he cleared away and had so many good blocks,” Robertson reflected to the club’s official website.”So credit to him because it can’t have been easy for him playing out of position. I’m sure Fabinho would have preferred to play as the No.6 but that’s the attitude we have in the squad, we are all willing to play in different positions if we have to.”I’m sure the manager just told him early doors and he embraced it and I thought he was brilliant. I thought he was different class.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgAndrew Cole: Really difficult seeing state of Man Utd and Newcastleby Paul Vegas20 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United Treble winner Andrew Cole says it’s tough seeing the club at such a low ebb.Cole feels the same for another of his former teams, Newcastle. He told The Sun: “It’s difficult, really difficult.“My time with Manchester United was so successful so when you see your team struggling like it is, you do ask yourself questions, and naturally punters will ask you questions as well.“It gets frustrating because you want the current team to be playing well and winning the Premier League just like we did. “Likewise at Newcastle, from where they were under my brief time under Kevin Keegan, to where they are now, it’s chalk and cheese. “In those times, the owner Sir John Hall said he wanted to rival Manchester United to try and win the league.“But if you look at Newcastle now, they are more than happy if they finish in the top half. That’s how much things have changed.“I do get a little bit disappointed because all Newcastle fans want is just a little bit of success.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

The boy went in to make a tackle.”Mo Salah is a world-class player but you can tackle him. It wasn’t even a bad tackle.”You have to ensure they stay aggressive because that is their game, without overstepping the line.”If you look at the team we play in an aggressive but sporting way.”Young Hamza is one of those lads that play on the limit and is fighting for his career.”His strength is recovering the ball and retrieving the ball, which he is very good at, and he is learning other aspects of his game.”The only way is constant work and talking with him.” last_img read more

John Calipari Trolled UNC Columnist With Press Conference Outfit

first_imgA closeup of Coach Cal in front of a blue Kentucky background.NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – FEBRUARY 27: Head coach John Calipari of the Kentucky Wildcats speaks to the media after a 74-62 loss to Vanderbilt at Memorial Gym on February 27, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee. (Photo by Frederick Breedon/Getty Images)John Calipari wore a white t-shirt and shorts to his Tuesday press conference as a little jab at a UNC columnist who criticized his post-game outfit.Following Kentucky dramatic 101-100 win against North Carolina on Saturday, John Calipari went somewhat casual with his post-game look, taking off his tie and changing into jeans.Video of the presser, via Kentucky.com:For whatever reason, UNC’s Adam Lucas, who writes the school’s in-house basketball column, harped on it after the game. You can hate the game because the opponent was Kentucky and being in the same building with them reminds you of exactly how differently things work in Lexington. John Calipari arrived at his postgame press conference with his tie off, top two buttons on his shirt unbuttoned, and having changed into blue jeans. There are not two top-level programs in America right now that arrive at the end result off the court more differently than Carolina and Kentucky. On Tuesday, Calipari decided to troll Lucas a bit, wearing a white t-shirt and shorts to his press conference, with a towel draped over his shoulder.Cal came straight from his workout. “You guys want me to change?” Surely this is a nod to the UNC column. pic.twitter.com/ap9t0KxXMl— Kyle Tucker (@KyleTucker_AJC) December 20, 2016Think this game matters to this state? pic.twitter.com/ct5MH9ajUc— Kentucky Basketball (@KentuckyMBB) December 20, 2016I’m a little disappointed that Calipari didn’t break out the flip-flops to complete the look, but the point was certainly made, and incredibly well executed.[CBS Sports]last_img read more
